ID for pets

Riverside Animal Centre offers microchipping at a reduced rate of just £10.

Permanent identification such as this is very useful for tracking down an animal's owners should they become lost or stolen. However, it is important that you keep your pet's microchip details up to date!

Under the Control of Dogs Order 1992, it is a statutory requirement for all dogs to wear a tag brandishing the surname and address of the owner (a telephone number is also very helpful) whenever they are in a public place. Failure to comply can result in a fine of up to £5,000.

Without a tag (and even with a microchip), if a member of the public finds the dog they will be unable to return it themselves, which means they must take it to the council who will keep it in kennels until you contact them and pay a release fee.
